i am a faithful old fashion rangefinder camera junk. For a long time i said "no lomos for me". i don't like the term lomography either. The word puts a weird feeling on my face and in my stomach when i say it or hear it. who coined it anyways?

Late last year, i ate my words about not owning one and picked up a holga for myself because truthfuly i dig the images and color explosions of many sorts. using different film and camera combinations to achieve different effects is fun. i knew this camera was too easy and i wasnt very comfortable with that, so i skipped the bandwagon, missed the entire lomography bangbus and did my own shit with this camera. that was my attitude.

ive been to some lomo exhibits and my problem is that many take photos of nothing or just themselves and their friends and include these in exhibits and call them "art". i dont know abt that..theres a lot one can do with these cameras so shooters shouldnt limit themselves. whatever happened to subject matter?

I don't like its trend and lifestyle value. while its also true that lomo takes away a lot of work from the shooter. not all shooters nowadays like to think. in that sense, lomo is for random trigger happy people. but this doesn't mean that composition and style can't come into play with lomo. Its the easy mentality of this photography sub-culture that creates the mediocrity in effect.

Lomo pictures would still come out better if shot with the proper components--style, technique, subject matter, attitude and approach. so anyone who uses a lomo should expand his/her shots and don't use it like a digital camera. use the eye, create and quit bullshitting..

Its a pretentious movement masquerading as art, heavily borrowing from long established traditions and corrupting these at the same time.
Pure bovine dropping!

I read this article also. :) at agree ako kay artifakt.

I've got to admit i own a holga. But i own 2 other manual cameras also, which i got from my mom who is also an animator and a painter...I like the feel of the photos i take with my holga, but it doesn't mean i don't consider creating my own composition.

I think. I frame. I shoot and at least may concept pa rin. Di basta basta point and click. The thing here is "deviate" and do not just ride the bandwagon just because uso siya.

There are a lot people who take their tools(cameras) for granted and use it for camwhoring and sh*t..and then they call themselves photographer/artist?
